Formerly a run-down sweet shop on a street corner of Cullercoats on the north east coast, the Candyman has been transformed into an elegant coffee lounge with a separate ice cream parlour which is guaranteed to be synonymous as the North-East coasts premier Cafeteria. The Coffee House The shop had been vacant for a while when the new owners, Marj and Dave Reynolds approached Quay Shop Fitters to discuss their plans, they were looking to create a classy, chic coffee house with a relaxing atmosphere overlooking the picturesque coastline. The coffee lounge design incorporates purpose-built curved walls and a service counter that is both decorative and practical, oak panelled walls and a polished oak floor give the lounge a contemporary modern feel. We were very aware that the quality of the finish had to be exceptional and exceeded expectations in all of these areas. At the same time it needed to be practical and durable. Modern decor coupled with a balanced combination of traditional and modern loose furniture creates a comfortable ambience that will appeal to patrons of all ages. The use of decorative lighting combined with plush soft furnishings will ensure that the customers enjoy their surroundings as much as the homemade scones and cakes. The kitchen was created in a small space to incorporate preparation, cooking and dishwashing areas with storage cabinets and refrigeration, the design had to maximise the practical use of the space allocated whilst also adhering to health and safety regulations. We constructed a corridor linking the coffee lounge to the amenities with mirrored doors down one side concealing, in addition to large storage and refrigeration areas for stock items, a janitorial area with hand washing and storage facilities to ensure that cleaning products can be stored safely. The Ice Cream Parlour With the shop being located so close to the beach Marj and Dave hoped that Beaches & Cream would also be able to cater for families, the initial design was adapted to create a separate ice cream parlour which can only be described as 'every child's dream', with candy striped walls and a traditional sweet shop theme this ice cream parlour will attract the younger generation from miles around.
